WSG IV Notification – Rejuvenation Postponed

On behalf of the WSG Board and the Landscaping Committee, this is to wish everyone a happy, festive, and safe holiday season.  You will be pleased to know that it has been agreed to postpone the Rejuvenation process until January 2021.

The rejuvenation process which Ruppert Landscaping will do, while expensive, is a one-off process, which will start on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 and, weather permitting, will take four days to complete.  We would appreciate it if you could have all decorations and lights removed from bushes, shrubs, and railings by January 2 at the latest.

Rejuvenation pruning will give shrubs, bushes, and trees the opportunity to thrive by appropriately trimming and cutting away the excess growth and removal of dead or dying sections. Rejuvenation allows our plants to renew themselves and flourish in a natural way.

Rejuvenation is not being undertaken merely for aesthetic purposes.  The purpose is to care for our properties, maintain their values and enhance the beauty of our neighborhood and green common spaces we all love and enjoy.

Happy Holidays!

The WSG Board

Upcoming Pruning and Lawn Aeration

Ruppert will  do a general maintenance pruning of all shrubs in the front and side of homes (up to the AC units)  throughout the community beginning Wednesday, 9/23/2020 — WEATHER PERMITTING.  If needed, pruning will be completed on Wednesday, 9/30/2020.

PLEASE DO NOT INTERRUPT THE RUPPERT WORKERS WITH ANY REQUESTS OR ISSUES.  CONTACT HOPE WEBER OR PEGGY AKERS WITH YOUR COMMENTS.

Tag with colored tape any shrub(s) you do not want pruned.  Colored tape will be placed on the bench in each close in a plastic bag.  When you have used the tape, return it in the plastic bag to the bench for your neighbors to use.  The tapes will be collected after pruning is completed.

Within 2 weeks following the pruning, please remove any tape that you have put on the shrubs.

AERATION & OVERSEEDING

Aeration and overseeding of the lawns will occur on Thursday, 10/8/2020.

New Date: Rejuvenation Pruning of Elaeagnus Shrubs

NEW DATE: WEEK OF JULY 20

As previously mentioned, the rejuvenation pruning for the Elaeagnus throughout the community will commence on Monday, JULY 20.  The rejuvenation will take the Elaeagnus down  significantly in order to allow more light to reach the lower limbs.  The Elaeagnus will be treated at the same time for the fungus that is currently affecting the plants.  Do not be surprised by the significant cut back.  And, please do not interrupt the Ruppert crew during this pruning.

If you have any questions, please contact Hope Weber or
Peggy Akers.

Thank you.

Pruning Coming in Early July

Ruppert will  do a general maintenance pruning of all shrubs in the front and side of homes (up to the AC units)  throughout the community beginning the week of July 6, 2020 — WEATHER PERMITTING.

We have identified that the Elaeagnus  (common name, Silverberry) shrub throughout the community has a fungus.  After consultation with Ruppert, the Landscape Committee has engaged Ruppert for a special rejuvenation project to significantly prune the Elaeagnus and then apply an appropriate treatment to hopefully eliminate the fungus.  All of the Elaeagnus along the sides and rears of homes on Woodbury and for several homes that face Weathersfield will be addressed as well as other areas of the community that has this shrub.  This rejuvenation is only for ELAEAGNUS, not other shrubbery. IT WILL BE A SEPARATE PRUNING PROJECT – THE DATE HAS NOT YET BEEN ESTABLISHED BUT HOMEOWNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED WHEN THE DATE IS ESTABLISHED.

Thank you – The Landscape Committee

LAWN CARE MAINTENANCE NOTIFICATION

The second round of pre-emergent weeding application will occur on April 13, weather permitting.  As a reminder, please do not stop or talk to the Ruppert Team.  They are here to do regular maintenance and cannot take special requests.  If you have any questions, please contact Hope Weber, Landscape Chair.  Thank you.

Landscape Committee Reminder … and Notice

A friendly reminder to all homeowners that if garden debris is placed at the entrance to the close for pick up by Ruppert Landscaping, it must be in BROWN LAWN BAGS, not plastic bags.  Ruppert will not pick up any  debris in plastic bags.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Due to COVID-19, our weekly landscaping maintenance schedule may differ based on Ruppert crew availability.  Ruppert is trying to accommodate employees’ families and coordinate time off as needed.  This is a time that we all need to stay calm but be mindful that all of us, including those contractors who provide services to us, have the same concerns and issues that we all are dealing with.

Thank you.
Hope Weber, Landscape Committee Chair

Pencil Hollies by Garages

Over the past several months, the Landscape Committee has noticed that there are 5-6 dead Pencil Hollies.  These are the shrubs planted between most of the garages.  In past years, when the Pencil Hollies have died, they have been replaced only to die again.

Because these shrubs are surrounded by asphalt and concrete with no access to water,  the Landscape Committee made the decision not to replace them.  They will be removed and the spot will be filled with mulch.

Lawn Care Work Soon

The first round of pre-emergent weeding application will occur on February 13, weather permitting.  As a reminder, please do not stop or talk to the Ruppert Team.  They are here to do regular maintenance and cannot take special requests.  If you have any questions, please contact Hope Weber, Landscape Chair.  Thank you.
